Linux people are nice, Windows aren’t

This morning I received a comment from jagwah offering me a free copy of Ubuntu, thankyou that’s a kind thought, and then there is everytime I post something on this blog or on a linux forum, I get a nice comment or reply back, very helpful, overall giving me a very nice impression of Linux users. Then I post on http://www.computerforum.com, about how I will be moving to Linux, I then get into a debate with a Windows fanboy who calls me an idiot and then says Linux users are confused and greedy, hmm I wonder why I am moving to Linux, all I did was say that Microsoft are only interested in profits. You can see the argument here: http://www.computerforum.com/82920-im-switching-windows-vista-mandriva-linux.html, oh, and at the time of writing this post there was a Linux user who offered a nice reply, just shows, you Linux folk are so damn kind whereas Windows people are just well, you make your own mind up.

  1. Well, that’s certainly conclusive to how ALL of any group acts. Yeesh!

  2. :)
    Welcome to the Linux World!
    Soon you’ll be a Linux Addict :D

  3. I certainly hope so if this is anything to go by.

  4. Hey, listen, heyman421 is just an idiot that likes to pick fights with everyone. There are plenty of blind Windows users who will insult you for trying something different, just as there are plenty of elitist asshole Linux users who think they’re smarter than you for trying something different.

  5. Switching has it’s issues, and a friendly community helps a lot. Since Linux was built on the idea of community, it’s kinda something you buy into when you choose your distribution.

Why is it that some M$ peeps act like frat boys, trying to demoralize and bully anyone who decides to switch? Simple…..they know their beloved M$ is technically week, and only dominant in the marketplace through bully boy tactics and pre-install deals. Their fan boys are mirroring their company in attitude.

I have noticed sometimes in the Linux community, some experienced users scoff at those “inferior” individuals who choose a different Linux to theirs. Sometimes they speak in shorthand code which they understand….but forget that everyone has to start somewhere.

I reported a security bug in Ubuntu….got a few emails back in code. Since I wanted to help, I emailed back asking them to explain in plain English what they needed from me….and got another response in code. This went back and forth….and remained unresolved, and was closed.

As far as I know, you can still change the root password without entering the old one. All I can say is “I tried”

  6. Wow! I just read those forum posts and I have to say there’s some real jackasses out there. Granted, there’s often a bit of elitism in the Linux world, but I haven’t run into too much of that myself.

  7. and i’m sure there isn’t a single computer-science-grad-school linux asshole who can never shut up about how amazing his or her free operating system is and how the whole world should use it and it’s the easiest thing in the world to use and you could run linux on a toaster and since i’m such a nerd i’m going to go and actually try to run linux on a toaster now that i have the idea…
